Where do I start?

We have had lots of stuff going in lately! Probably the most trying thing was back at the end of July when Luke was running a little fever. No big deal but then he threw up in the middle of the night and then again the next day so a quick trip to the doc suggested a little leftover fluid from an ear infection. I didn't agree but that's another story. Anyway, his fever won't break, he had diarrhea and wouldn't drink anything. This goes on for FIVE days!!!! On top of that, he had a stuffy nose and couldn't breathe so he didn't sleep more than 10 or 15 minutes at a time for THREE days.  Finally, we took him to the ER at Texas Children's on Saturday night around 8:30.  He was extremely dehydrated and had to have 3 bags of IV fluids.  We thought we were going to get to go home but then his fever went back up to 103 so they said nope, we were spending the night.

Well, after doing an ultrasound and a chest x-ray, they finally moved us to a room at 4 a.m.  None of us had had any sleep since Thursday so we crashed - HARD.  The nurse said she came in to take Luke's vitals and not one of us moved a muscle.  We woke up at 8:30 and Luke was feeling much better.  We had to stay for a while to make sure he was ok and got to leave around 3:30 Sunday afternoon.  It was quite an ordeal but I thank God that we have been blessed with healthy children.  It was really hard to be at Texas Children's Hospital where kids are dealing with such awful health conditions.

Then we had another trip to Texas Children's with Katie bug.  She woke up at 2:30 in the morning screaming and crying.  She kept saying her head hurt so I called the on-call doctor who said we should take her in to the ER so they could go a CT scan.  The thing is, small children like Katie do not get headaches so we couldn't take the chance.  Turns out that she had just slept funny and it was really her neck that was hurting.  That was quite a relief but we'll see how much that 2 hour hospital visit will cost.  Sigh.

In the meantime, Luke has started playing t-ball.  He is excited about it and looking forward to his first game this weekend.  He also starts his last year of Pre-school on Tuesday.  We are going to a "Meet the Teacher" night at his school this evening.  I am so pleased that he has been assigned to the teacher I was hoping he would get.

Katie bug will continue her tumbling classes for the fall.  She is getting better at following instructions (for the coach - not for me!!!) and really has fun at class so that's great!
