Moving Fast

Well, building the house, I think, would be a lot more fun if I didn't have a day job.  Each day I leave for work before the sun gets up, then I rush home and hope the traffic isn't too bad just so that I can see how much progress the guys have made on the house before the sun sets.  Somedays I make it.  Somedays, I don't.  But it is interesting to see the progress nonetheless, even if I have to see it at dusk.

As with any project, you find little details during the course of construction that were omitted, overlooked, or just plain ignored.  Before construction began, I was hopeful that I had all my ducks in a row, not only for the sake of my financial best interests, or for the fastest schedule, but also because I asked my father to be part of this exciting venture.  Right or wrong, I looked at this as a way to impress him, to show him I had thought of everything.  Human nature is to look at the wrongs before looking at the rights, and only time will tell if I got more right than I did wrong.  That being said, I have definitely notice when he asks me questions as to why I ordered this, or how is he supposed to do that.  But beyond impressing him ( or not), I hope that he is having fun.  When I originally asked him to be involved, I distinctly remember thinking that this house will be built at the right time of year, not only temperature wise, not only business wise (we usually slow down between Christmas and the first few weeks of the new year), but also because Luke will be out of school during the Holidays and could go by and at least watch Pops working, if not outright helping.  Well, the Luke idea didn't work out so well as Kate has a touch of wanting to be in the middle of everything and when Luke gets to stay and have fun somewhere, she puts up one huge fit which is not fun for Marlina.  Also, I forgot one crucial element when designing this plan: this is an actual construction site.  There are nails, rebar, broken boards, and myriad other things that a curious 6-year old could get hurt on if not paying attention.  They did manage to go by there daily and watch a little bit, and both Luke and Kate got to lay an actual block (with Pops' help).

Other than this, things are moving pretty fast and I hope I can stay on top of it.  Thank God Marlina and I have put together a good team that will help us with this task.
