Today, December 20, 2013 we poured the slab for the new Hogg Heaven. And by we, I mean Unk and his workers. I stood around and watched almost all the way. I have never poured concrete using a concrete pump before. It must be pretty nice to be able to maneuver the concrete wherever you want it without having to deal with an 8' shoot hanging off the back of a 40,000 lb concrete truck.
Before the concrete was scheduled, Marlina and I discussed placing a cross in the concrete as an additional way of blessing this house. Well, today we watched as the silver crucifix attached by some rosary beads got placed just past the threshold of the new house. Lord, bless this house.
In addition to the placing of the physical concrete, today the house became metaphorical concrete as well. As in, this project is real. Besides being able to see the footprint of the house, we also officially signed off on the first draw for the builder. As a contractor, I know the importance of paying the builder. I am just not used to being the one who writes the check.
Luke was a little disappointed that he didn't get to write his name in the concrete today. I am making him wait till we pour the driveway. At that point hand prints and signatures will adorn the concrete.
